New, Improved Aqeo® MBR

Brisbane based wastewater treatment plant producer Stornoway Water has recently made substantial improvements to its membrane bioreactor product and in the process has managed to cut the costs of production, installation and in some cases, freight.

Stornoway CEO Tim Gardner said the changes have also assisted improving the turnaround and delivery time after an order has been placed.

“Due the high prices of steel, we have changed the design of our units to incorporate high grade industrial polyethylene tanks to replace the previous steel tanks” Mr Gardner said.

“In doing this, we reduce the build time of our membrane bioreator unit and maintain a robust and transportable product which is ideal for installation at locations with difficult access. We have also redesigned our air conditioned control room to be housed in a custom modified ISO shipping container that also provides robustness and facilitates ease of transportation.

“Our proven process design of the Aqeo® MBR has remained the same, but we have worked smarter in sourcing our process tanks from suppliers in the region of installation substantially cutting down the freight component of the job."

Mr Gardner said Stornoway Water had sourced suppliers in key installation areas for the poly tanks so that the technical specifications meet the strict specifications requirements of Stornoway’s Process Engineers.

According to Mr Gardner, site preparation costs have also been cut with the introduction of the poly tank system.

“Installation costs are reduced as the poly tanks only require a compacted aggregate base instead of the concrete base the steel tanks need which saves the client a considerable amount of cost for site preparation."

Mr Gardner said that the greatest benefit of all was that the Aqeo® MBR could be expanded with greater ease due to the use of the poly tank system.

“We can now provide extra capacity far quicker than we could previously which is of great benefit to the client. As the client’s on-site flow capacity grows, Stornoway can provide a more streamlined system expansion to meet these requirements."
