Omnicrete hits the road in Tasmania

Posted on 04 May, 2009

Tasmania’s only authorised Omnicrete applicator, Stornoway Maintenance, have recently completed a major project in the Devonport City precinct applying the texture coated surface to a number of pedestrian crossings and street roundabouts.

Devonport City Council approached Stornoway Maintenance to tender for the job after its architects recommended the surfacing be completed to assist the appearance of the area to travellers aboard the Spirit of Tasmania.

Devonport City Council spokesman Chris Wools-Cobb, said the work was seen as a way of creating visual impact for guests arriving in or leaving Tasmania via the Spirit of Tasmania.

“Due to the high impact nature of the area with constant traffic coming on and off the boat, Stornoway’s Omnicrete product met all the demands required such as being slip resistant while being able to improve the aesthetic feel of the area” said Wools-Cobb.

Stornoway Maintenance General Manager, Chris Cartledge, says that the polymer resin surface material is ideal for applications such as city streets and crossings due its high strength, durability and increased aesthetic appeal to streetscapes.

“The flexibility of the product in relation to where it can applied is incredible, and being able to select shapes and colouring gives the client a huge range of scope. The product has a long shelf life and the colour is guaranteed for 10 years.”

“Omnicrete is a terrific option for so many different applications, restaurants, cafes, schools, pool surfaces/edging, bike tracks, galleries, bus malls, the list can go on. It can be used on internal and external surfaces and provides a high level of friction which creates fantastic grip in all conditions.

“The other benefit is that the product is environmentally friendly and can be applied to surfaces.”
