Stornoway

Rising to the challenges of rockfall control

Having started in quarrying, Stornoway knows the dramatic impact a rockfall can have on both infrastructure and people’s lives. Above all, we have an unwavering commitment to deliver the highest standards in safety, design and construction. This has firmly established Stornoway as the leader in sophisticated, fully integrated rockfall control safety systems.

Our innovative turn-key solutions address all aspects of open cut rockfall risk management, including in-depth geotechnical assessment, complete system design, through to total construction and implementation.

Site specific needs are assessed using a combination of appropriate design methodologies, experience and applied risk management principles to arrive at cost-effective solutions.

Based on this rigorous evaluation process, the most advanced technologies (flexible mesh, rock bolting, anchors, and high-impact catch fencing) are applied to help minimise rockfall risk. The success of which is further assured through partnering with the world’s leading rockfall control product suppliers and geotechnical engineering specialists.

In recent years, Stornoway Rockfall Control has installed in excess of 100,000m2 of control systems on rockfaces up to 80 metres in height – without serious incident. A particularly significant achievement, being the design and construction of one of Australia’s biggest rockfall projects covering an expanse of 50,000m2
