Rio Tinto Mesa ‘A’ Iron Ore Project, Pilbara, W.A.

The Mesa A / Warramboo mine, about 50 kilometres from Pannawonica in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, will have an initial production of 20 Mtpa, increasing to 25Mtpa by 2011. The mine will sustain production of Robe Valley pisolite ore at 32Mtpa over the next decade. Current production from the Mesa J deposit, now nearing the end of its mine life, will reduce to 7Mtpa with Mesa A providing the balance.

Leighton Contractors – Goonyella Rail Link Project

Queensland Rail (QR) engaged the CoalConnect project alliance agreement – an alliance comprising QR, Leighton Contractors, GHD and KBR. Together, these partners will undertake the civil works of the Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project, including the Northern Missing Link and the Buckley to Newlands Upgrade. This is a $1 billion expansion of the export coal rail network – the biggest rail project in Queensland in three decades.

Stornoway Water was enagaged by ATCO Structures to supply Leighton Contractors a Sewage Treatment Plant and Water Treatment Plant for the initial construction crew of 250, with plans to expand to expand to 400 persons in the first quarter of 2009.

Coppabella Mine Accommodation Camp – Temporary Wastewater Treatment

The Mac Services Group provides mine site accommodation throughout Queensland’s central Bowen Basin region. While in the process of resolving longer term infrastructure requirements for the expansion of their Coppabella camp, The Mac required a temporary sewage treatment system that would cope with the housed population. Clermont Coal Mine Wastewater Recycling

Rio Tinto is one of the world's leading mining and exploration companies. As part of the development of their new A$950M Clermont Mine in Central Queensland, they specified that all wastewater from the mine accommodation camp would be recycled for on-site reuse. Together with their engineering partners, SKM, they chose Stornoway Water to provide a high quality wastewater recycling system capable of producing Class A+ recycled water. Read More »
