Aqeo® MBR

The Aqeo® MBR (membrane bioreactor) wastewater treatment system produces the highest standard of recycled water (Class A/A+), suitable for uncontrolled reuse including ground irrigation, toilet flushing and process washdown. In a technical sense, it is a suspended growth activated sludge system that utilises microporous membranes for solid/liquid separation.
The system incorporates a proprietary biological treatment process using extended aeration. Our process provides flexibility in flow demands, in addition to a high standard of effluent quality with virtually no odours. In combination with ultra-filtration membranes, the process forms a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) to produce extremely high quality recycled water.
Flow balancing is incorporated into the design of the plant to enable the daily peaks to be absorbed, while the normal treatment processes are undertaken. This enables the plant to spread the load over the day resulting in a higher quality final effluent being produced.
Aeration is undertaken in the aeration tank utilising fine bubble membrane diffusers. Dissolved oxygen monitoring and variable speed control of the aeration equipment results in maximising of plant power efficiency while providing the ideal conditions for optimum water treatment.
Ultra-filtration serves as an absolute barrier to solids, as well as being an extremely efficient method of filtering a very high percentage of bacteria and viruses. Ultra-violet radiation treatment combined with chlorine dosing provides double disinfection for enhanced final effluent quality.

Small footprint
Secondary clarifiers and tertiary filtration processes required for conventional activated sludge treatment processes are eliminated, thereby reducing the overall plant footprint. Subject to operational and license requirements, this footprint can be further reduced by eliminating digesters..
Improved sludge management
Aqeo® MBR wastewater treatment plants don’t rely on achieving good sludge settleability. Solids are also separated through the membrane filtration process, making it more robust and therefore suited to remote operation.
Poly tank integration
Aqeo® MBR wastewater treatment plants utilise poly tanks to reduce expensive steel costs and reduce the cost of freighting treatment plants to their end location. The use of poly tanks also greatly increases the flexibilty to expand the treatment plant as demand grows.
Odourless aerobic digestion
Aqeo® MBR plants include odourless aerobic sludge digestion. Through removal of excess activated sludge from the plant to a digester, tank biomass levels are kept at an optimum level resulting in effluent levels that consistently meet the highest EPA standards. Sludge digestion means a pump-out is required much less frequently than plants without a digester – on average once every 12 months rather than once every 3 months.
Flow balancing
Elimination of inflow fluctuations is critical to achieving optimal performance. AQEO® MBR waste water plants all incorporate flow balancing designed to cope with peak flow rates. Most importantly, this ensures the reactors are able to treat all inflow at the same process rate resulting in better effluent and no undue strain on the system.

Aqeo® MBR wastewater treatment plants are factory built and tested, minimising on-site time and saving on plant commissioning costs.

Ease of maintenance/service
The robustness of the Aqeo® MBR systems design results in consistent performance and lower maintenance costs. All Aqeo® MBR wastewater treatment plants use 3 phase motors for lower amp draw to save on costs and increase reliability. Pumps also have 316 stainless steel wet components for prolonged life and reliability.
